"Pelosi on the CIA: "They Mislead Us All The Time"

But Speaker Pelosi did not confine the question to the reliability of memory. Instead, she made the allegation last week that the CIA intentionally misled her -- misled Congress -- and not just once, but routinely.

"They mislead us all the time," she said.

She charged that the CIA, deliberately and as a matter of policy, violated the law by lying to Congress.

And with that allegation, Speaker Pelosi disqualified herself from the office she holds."

the above is taken from Newt Gingrich's article. I hadn't realized the whole problem was Nancy Pelosi's kfault.

Newts article is a long piece of torturous and ill thought out logic. some of the best parts are quoted below.

"The person who is No. 2 in line to be commander in chief can’t have contempt for the men and women who protect our nation. America can’t afford it."

Speaker Pelosi's contempt was for the CIA, not for the men and women in the armed forces. The number of people in this country who have contempt for the CIA in numbers in the tens of millions.

"This Isn’t About Politics. It’s About National Security"

Newt, are you serious? If a politician says that it's about politics.

"But Speaker Pelosi did not confine the question to the reliability of memory. Instead, she made the allegation last week that the CIA intentionally misled her -- misled Congress -- and not just once, but routinely."

Again, Newt are you serious? The CIA has a long tradition of misleading Congress and the nation. Start with the Bay of Pigs and the list would cover several pages.

"If Nancy Pelosi believed that waterboarding was justified in 2002 -- just like Porter Goss, President Bush, Vice President Cheney and CIA Director Tenet -- then a policy of selectively using enhanced interrogation techniques in carefully circumscribed ways in order to prevent future attacks -- in other words, the Bush Administration policy -- is vindicated."

Let's assume that Nancy Pelosi believe that water brought in was justified in 2002. How does that vindicate the Bush administration policy. Wrong is wrong, no matter who supported it.

"She’s made America less secure by sending a signal to the men and women defending our country that they can’t count on their leaders to defend them."

The Bush administration made America less secure by starting an ill-conceived, and ultimately fruitless, war with Iraq and failing to finish the war in Afghanistan. Hard to imagine it's all Nancy Pelosi's fault. But a man with Newt Gingrich's insight and knowledge couldn't be wrong.

neilbco - The men and women of the CIA/FBI/NSA, etc also defend our nation. Newt did not say "fight", he said "protect". They protect our nation via intelligence gathering.

Your defense of Pelosi is pretty weak and full of generalizations and fuzzy context. Not sure where you got the stat that tens of millins have contempt for the CIA. Did you take a poll, ask your friends and family, . . .what? The fact is that infighting does show weakness as does our leadership lying and making false accuastaions. And the CIA lied about the Bay of Pigs on the orders of JFK, a Democrat and LBJ, a Democrat, lied about the Gulf of Tonkin. None of that excuses Peolsi, does not apply to this debate, and she should resign.

my post was not so much a defensive Nancy Pelosi as it was poking holes in Newt Gingrich's political diatribe. no, I did not take a poll of how people feel about the CIA. Yes, I did make a generalization I can support. But it's reputation is far from sterling. In terms of the Bay of Pigs, the issue is not whether they lied on orders of JFK, but rather that he was given bad information. I have stopped much of my political posting because of the inability of the right in the left to have any meaningful dialogue. To me, it seems ridiculous for Nancy Pelosi to resign because she made misstatements, or even lied. If every person in Congress had to resign for lying then at best we might have a few left seated at the end of the day.

for reference you can look at the comments on my post on conservative media. I got a few shots in, and then the melee began. Failure of the right and left to communicate is a major problem in this country. Cal Thomas has written as much and has a liberal friend with whom he is trying to address this problem.
